Cousin Ron reels in a Dorado!

Surprisingly, Ron liked the weather better than Portland
Mike's cousin Ron escaped the winter weather in Portland, bringing treats we don't find locally. Kobos coffee for Mike, Grey Poupon Dijon mustard, and granola with no added sugar.

Before sailing north to Punta de Mita in lovely afternoon winds, we turned Ron onto a "night on the town" in La Cruz starting with street tacos and live music, the next day we bought tuna and dorado at the daily fish market in La Cruz and took the 'colectivo' bus to the neighboring town of Bucerias for shrimp tacos.

Pura Vida at Chacala
En route north, we saw whale spouts and dolphins in Banderas Bay. The next day we motor sailed north to Chacala, one of our favorite anchorages with its colorful beachfront palapas, excellent swimming beach and cobblestone streets. We bused to La Penita de Jaltemba as that area doesn’t have an anchorage. We walked the malecon (beachfront promenade), wandered through town, and dined on more fish and shrimp.

We drag two fishing lines behind Pura Vida on our

journeys, one with a cedar plug, the other with a Rapala lure. We catch fish with both lines and some days we have luck with a keeper. A common catch are the crevalle jack that are not good eating so back they go. We caught a dorado/mahi mahi which Ron reeled in and cleaned (yea). We dined like kings that night.
